ZINC contemporary is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by Seattle-based artist John Dempcy. Rhythm and Rhyme traces Dempcy’s fascination with the intersection of science, music and art, in a journey of abstraction, rhythm, and the transient nature of the universe. Dempcy finds the mystery and beauty in the unfolding of his art practice to be most precedent; letting the gestural flow of his brushstrokes lead him to artistic pathways of discovery. The weaving bands of colors trigger interpretations of measurable frequencies or sound waves - devoid of the circular forms in his earlier work. Observing natural phenomena in the biodiverse landscape of the Pacific Northwest, he seeks inspiration from the sense of awe and wonder of the natural world. Dempcy lives and works in Seattle, WA. He received a B.A. in Art from the University of Washington and an A.A. degree in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Seattle. He has exhibited his work throughout the United States and has paintings in numerous private, public, and corporate collections including Microsoft, the Swedish Medical Group, and the University of Oregon.
