Art Outside the Box!: Our First Community Come celebrate Coast Salish public art in Pioneer Square! The Pioneer Square Residents’ Council is pleased to announce the completion of their pilot public art project in Pioneer Square. Five enrolled tribal members representing 5 tribes in the Coast Salish tribal region were selected by a panel of Native American leaders in art, design and community. “ It’s been a privilege to be able to create opportunities for artists, especially POC artists from this under represented group who have so much history in our neighborhood. This project seeks to honor that we are on Duwamish land," states Morlock.

The selected artists : Denise Emerson, Skokomish Tribe, Dylan Thomas, Lyackson First Nation, Joseph (wahalatsu?) Seymour, Squaxin Island Tribe, Keith Stevenson, Muckleshoot Tribe and Rudy Romero, Nooksack Tribe/Skway First Nation. Each artist was commissioned to embellish a Department of Transportation signal box along 1st Avenue S in Pioneer Square. Come celebrate Coast Salish public art and Pioneer Square on First Thursday August 1st from 5:00-6:30pm with a reception at the Chief Seattle Club. At 6:30pm following the reception there will be an art walk down 1st Avenue S to see the artworks and hear from the artists about their inspirations. This project has been funded by the Business Improvement Area of the Alliance for Pioneer Square and the Pioneer Square Residents’ Council and we are grateful for the support. * image Generations 2 by Denise Emerson
