ABOUT THE ARTISTS ----------------- Makena Gadient was taught to sew by her mother around the same time she learned to write. Gadient is focused on autobiographical narratives told through abstraction. For a few years she was worried that creating personal work using stereotypical feminine material would be exclusionary towards men, or would be considered craft. She is happiest when creating, and no longer worried about those who do not like the stories she tells, or how she tells them. Born and raised in Maui, HI, she spends her summers in the home she grew up in experimenting with new material alongside her family. She has participated in multiple group shows in Seattle since moving in 2012 and in the last year her work has been in two shows with Soft.Core gallery in Los Angeles. Alex Britt (Nansemond, White) is a multi-disciplinary Artist from Seattle, WA. Their work focuses on identity and heritage, through ideas of indigeneity, material, softness, and the body. Originally from a small town in Utah, their work pushes to celebrate minority communities, especially the queer and indigenous communities, that they never saw represented in their upbringing.

ABOUT THE MUSICIAN ------------------- Michael Van Bebber is a trumpeter, teacher and composer based in Seattle. He has performed with many notable jazz artists including: Meschiya Lake, Lee Konitz, Branford Marsalis, Walt Weiskopf, John Pizzarelli, the Woody Herman Band, Johnny Mathis, The Four Tops and many others. Van Bebber leads the Careless Lovers and is a regular member of the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, The Jay Thomas/Michael Van Bebber Quintet and the 5th Avenue Theatre pit orchestra, among other ensembles. *** Jazz Jam will run 6:15pm-9:15pm. Artists are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in for the 2nd and 3rd sets of the night!

---------------- DISCLAIMER ----------------- The Knife Room at Nordo is a historic underground venue that is only accessible by a staircase. We are working on options to make it more accessible, (this is costly and difficult in a 125 year old building,) and in the meantime apologize to those who cannot attend Knife Room events.
