First Thursday Opening: “Fugue in Blue”

Shift Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Shift artist, Amanda C. Sweet. June 6 - 29, 2019. Artist Talk, Sat. June 8, 2019 at 1pm. Tidal motion informs South Carolina-born abstract artist Amanda C. Sweet’s symphonic relationship to nature. As if performing scientific experiments, Sweet sets distinct variables in the studio. She plans along mathematical systems and patterns to transform her applied marks through segmentation, and then steps back to reflect upon their chance alignments. The end results are surprising, and the creative process is cathartic. Sweet’s paintings, paper quilts, and collages promote inclusiveness and curiosity. The artist believes that we can all grow through personal reflection when in the presence of art, as we do in nature.
