Opening Reception: Stolen Power

Join us at the A Gallery for the opening reception of "Stolen Power" by Erika Rier during Pioneer Square’s First Thursday July Art Walk.

In this installation, Erika continues her development of a visual language she has been building over the past decade, filled with pattern, color, and line. Her work draws heavily upon folk tales and mythology as a means to examine themes of the modern world. It is her mission to create art depicting womxn engaged with their world and shaping their reality, rather than depicting passive womxn shaped by the male gaze. Erika Rier is a self-taught artist working mostly in inks and paints on paper in a style she calls folk surrealism.

After many years of oil painting and designing clothes, she shifted her focus to works on paper. Erika resides in Portland, OR and has one of each of the following: husband, daughter, and cat.
