Jury-Rigged Fly Traps

There is a saying that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. In the case of two King County artists, this turn of phrase rings especially true. Thanks to a unique program offered by solid waste and recycling hauler, Recology CleanScapes, artists Dakota Gearhart and Alexander Keyes have been provided the opportunity to access materials at the company’s South Seattle recycling facility.

This creative outlet for artists is modeled after the award-winning Artist in Residence Program developed in 1990 by Recology in San Francisco. After a successful inaugural program in 2015, Recology CleanScapes continues to support artists working with recycled materials to encourage people to conserve natural resources and promote new ways of thinking about art and the environment.

Recology will host a reception to showcase "Jury-rigged Fly Traps", new works from Alex and Dakota’s collection, at FLUTTER Studios in Pioneer Square. The event will take place during Pioneer Square’s First Thursday Art Walk, and is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. Please join us to see how waste can be transformed into unique works of art.
