Ghosts of Flesh Avenue: Peep-show-themed Pop-up

There’s a peepshow at the Good Arts Building in Pioneer Square. If you should happen to glance over at the windows as you walk down Cherry Street, you might catch a glimpse of a gyrating silhouette or two through the cutouts in the blacked-out windows.

Amanda James Parker’s Ghosts of Flesh Avenue video installation was inspired by the artist’s experience as a dancer at the bygone Lusty Lady peep show. In it she pays homage to downtown Seattle’s checkered history as a skid row and red light district, nearly obliterated today . Last September, she reunited some of her old work pals to dance naked together once again, while she filmed their ghostly silhouettes through a scrim, in an empty storefront lent by the Good Arts Building. Parker first projected the video onto the walls of the former Lusty Lady, and Jen Graves wrote about the piece in the Stranger.
