Executed between 1810 and 1820, Goya's Disasters of War was inspired by scenes the artist witnessed during the Peninsular War against Napoleon Bonaparte that waged from 1808 to 1814. In a time before photo-journalism, Goya created a necessary and unflinching documentation of the ravages of war and it's power to dehumanize everyone involved.
